I used to go to bed EVERY SINGLE NIGHT with makeup on – I never washed it off. I mean, I did live in a van, but that’s no excuse. I have always been pretty easy going and the thought of taking the time every night to do a 5-step skincare routine? Hell no. It seemed ridiculous. So I just continued to let my skin be my skin, sleep with makeup on + not take proper care of it.
I am (now, I haven’t always been) a firm believer in daily routine — those little moments throughout your day that shape who you are and how your life is going. They may seem small, but when you add them all together they take up your entire day. Each and every moment should have a purpose, and it should all direct you to the same goal, whatever that may be for you.
For me, it’s living a healthy, happy, productive, self-care filled lifestyle because I know it makes me feel the best version of myself. And I’m not just talking about the ‘fun’ types of self-care like face masks and salon visits. I’m talking about the shitty stuff too, the stuff we don’t really want to do (which is why a lot of people just…don’t).
Even when I don’t want to do something like workout, stop eating meat, get up early, meditate, etc, I think about how I’m going to feel after I do that task I hate. I quickly realize this task I don’t want to do? I actually love it. Even though it doesn’t feel like it right now.
So, that’s why a good skincare routine is so important to me — I start and end my day with a routine that not only makes me feel better on the outside, but also on the inside.
